Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the center of steel materials to be cut with good accuracy with the equipment of simple construction by measuring the minimum required limit of the widths of the steel material to be cut, moving the steel material to the longitudinally cutting centerline based on this measured value and longitudinally cutting the same with a cutting tip.
CONSTITUTION: The centerline D' corresponding to the reference width of the steel material to be cut A is determined and the overhang amount of a steel material mover 13 for determining the centerline is set. The centerline thus determined is parallel to a reference rail 2. The steel material A is placed on a platen 10 and stand 12. The steel material A is contacted to the device 13 by a steel material pusher 11. A truck 3 is moved and the distances from the rail 2 at the end face of the steel material at two points B, C, e.g., actual widths b, c of the steel material A, are measured with the steel material width measuring device (arm 5, primary end 6, cylinder 7) on the truck 5. The tip 16 of the cutting truck 3 is moved to the place of b/2 and cutting is done by running the truck 3.
