Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily obtain the alloy cast ingot of the homogeneous texture by filling the mixed powder composed of Fe, Al, Si and other metals into a pure iron tubular body to make a consumable electrode and supplying current to this electrode thereby causing arc melting.
CONSTITUTION: Mixed powder composed primarily of Fe and containing small amounts of other metals such as Al, Si and Cr is filled in a pure iron tubular body 2 to form a consumable electrode A. When current is supplied to this electrode to cause arc melting in a water-cooled copper casting 3, the tubular body 2 melts nearly at the same speed as the powder 1 and the powder is continuously added into the molten metal 5. The cast ingot 6 obtained by subsequent freezing has no segregation and when it is cut out to a thin plate, it is free from any pinholes and cracks and therefore the yield of working becomes considerably high.
