Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a cationic high molecular flocculant with excellent dehydratability of organic sludge which essentially consists of two kinds of water soluble vinyl (co)polymers each having tertiary nitrogen and quaternary nitrogen containing vinyl monomer units.
CONSTITUTION: This cationic high molecular flocculant essentially consists of components A and B wherein a component A is a water soluble binyl (co)polymer having tertiary nitrogen containing vinyl monomer unit of the formula I [e.g. diethylaminoethyl (meth)acrylate sulphate] and a component B is a water soluble vinyl (co)polymer having quaternary nitrogen containing vinyl monomer unit of the formula II [e.g. (meth)acryloyloxyethyldiethylmethylammonium methyl-sulphate]. The ratio of tertiary and quaternary nitrogen atoms of A and B is 80/20W20/80 and this flocculant is added to various organic suspension in a concentration of generally 0.2W5.0wt% per solid contained therein to enable flocculation, precipitation and dehydration by filtration.
