Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove a small amount of impurities, e.g. acrolein, from crude liquid acrylonitrile almost completely, by treatment of the crude liquid acrylonitrile with a specific porous ion exchange resin.
CONSTITUTION: Liquid acrylonitrile is treated with a porous ion exchange resin having primary or secondary amine exchange groups [example; Diaion WA20, Amberite IR45, (trade names)] to purify acrylonitrile.
EFFECT: A raw material of a high molecular weight, water-soluble polyacrylamide containing little insoluble component and free from acrolein, and useful as an excellent polymer coagulant.
