Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily and efficiently perform flaw detection work, by mounting electromagnets and a magnetic powder sprinkling nozzle on a truck which moves in a pipe and by placing the pole ends of cores of the electromagnets near the inside surface of the pipe and opening the nozzle obliquely upward to the inside surface of the pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A truck 11 is inserted into an inspected steel pipe. A driving rod 32 is pulled to move the truck. Electromagnets 33 are energized and a magnetic- powder liquid is ejected up backward obliquely to the inside surface of the pipe from a sprinkling nozzle 30 through a hose 38 while the truck 11 is moving forth. Magnetic powder near a defect is attracted by leakage flux and laid in a pattern on the defect. The defect is detected in terms of the pattern.
