Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a high strength steel wire rod without hardening by hot rolling steel of a specified compsn. after which the resulting wire rod is forced to cool, circularly spread on a conveyor at a supercooled austenite state, cooled at a specified cooling rate to form a martensite structure, and slowly cooled. CONSTITUTION:Steel contg. C 0.10-0.40%, Si 0.05-1.5%, Mn 0.70-2.50%, Cr 0.10-1.50% and B 0.0002-0.0050% is hot rolled into a wire rod and immediately forced to cool to 500-700 deg.C with a forced cooling unit. The wire rod in a supercooled austenite stage is circularly spread on a conveyor with a laying cone and conveyed. At this state, a blast having a cooling capacity of 7 deg.C/sec or more is sprayed to cool the rod, thus forming a martensite structure all over the rod. The rod is then turned into a coil with a bundling unit and slowly cooled. The resulting wire rod has a high tensile strength of 110kg/mm<2> or more.
