Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve performance of a diesel engine by varying characteristics of fuel injection electrically or hydraulically that could not been attained by the conventional cam mechanism and to provide an arrangement capable of giving various instructions to fuel injection system while the engine is in operation.
CONSTITUTION: When an injection pulse signal is given, at the time of fuel injection, from pulse generator 23 to servo valve 1 on the basis of instruction signal from computor 22, its spool 2 is moved to the left so that hydraulic oil fed under pressure from hydraulic pump 3 is passed through a third port 13 and a fourth port 14 and flows into upper hydraulic chamber 81 of pressure amplifying mechanism 8. Resultantly, piston 9 is moved downward and fuel in lower hydraulic chamber 83 is pressurized and injected into combustion chamber via oil passage 18 and fuel injection port 21. When the piston 9 comes to the bottom dead point, pressure in oil sump 16 is lowered and needle valve 19 is closed by spring 20. Thus, fuel injection is finished.
