Abstract

PURPOSE: The hydrolysis of a specific compound resulting from reaction between a carboxylic acid or its derivative and 4(R)-thiazolidinecarboxylic acid gives title compound that has the activity inhibiting angiotensin-transforming enzyme and is used as antihypertensive.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I (R is R'OCO, R'OCS, R'NHCS; R' is alkyl, phenyl) is subjected to hydrolysis in a solvent to give 3-(3-mercapto-2-methylpropionyl)-4(R)-thiazolidinecarboxylic acid. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a carboxylic acid of formula III or its reactive derivative and 4(R)- thizaoldinecarboxylic acid of formula IV, and an example is 3-{3-[(methyl)thiocarbamoylthio]-2(S)-methylpropionyl}-4(R)-thiazolidinecarboxylic acid.
