Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a magnetic material with superior resistances to wear and corrosion by adding a small amt. of MoS2 to a Fe-Al-Si type alloy.
CONSTITUTION: This magnetic material is obtd. by adding 0.005W2.0wt% as total basis of MoS2 to a Fe-Al-Si type magnetic alloy, a Sendust type alloy. The MoS2 is added in a process for casting the alloy or a powder matallurgy process. That is, powder MoS2 is added to a molten Fe-Al-Si type alloy, or it is mixed with Fe- Al-Si type alloy powder obtd. by water granulation or mechanical crushing and optionally mixed with Fe powder after which the mixed powder is compressed and sintered. By this method the corrosion resistance of the Fe-Al-Si type alloy and the wear resistance thereof in hot and humid surroundings are improved with little MoS2, and the resulting material is suitable for use as a material for a magnetic head core.
