Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain zirconium phosphate fiber as long as several cm used as an inorg. ion exchanger by reacting a water sol. zirconim cpd. with phosphoric acid of a specified concn. at room temp.
CONSTITUTION: A 23W120 g/l as P2O5 soln. of phosphoric acid, pref. orthophosphoric acid is adjusted to 1W5 N with water or water and a water sol. org. solvent such as ethanol, and a solid, water sol. zirconium cpd. such as zirconium oxychloride is added to the resulting soln. and reacted at room temp. Air rises in the form of air bubbles from the zirconium oxychloride precipitated, and zirconium phosphate fiber is grown with the rise. Thus, fiber of above 5 cm length and about 20 μW0.1 mm diameter is obtd. usually. In case the above mixed solvent is used, the mixing ratio of the org. solvent is pref. below 50 mol%.
