Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve effective discharge rate by compression molding a foamed metal piece having spongy structure of copper or silver and amalgamated zinc film formed on the surface of the spongy structure. CONSTITUTION:A molded electrode 6 sonsisting mainly of silver oxide powder, a separator 7 and a negative electrode terminal plate 8 filled with a zinc electrode 4 are put in a positive electrode case 5 in order. The positive electrode case 5 and the terminal plate 8 are tightly closed together with an annular gasket 9 separating the positive electrode case 5 and the terminal plate 8, thus producing a button type battery. The zinc electrode 4 consists of a foamed metal piece 1 of copper or silver having a spongy three-dimensional net structure 2 and an amalgamated zinc film 3 formed on the surface of the structure 2, which are compression molded to form the molded zinc negative electrode 4. The zinc film is formed on the surface of the structure 2 by vapour plating, melt plating or electrolytic plating, then amalgamated.
