Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the vibration and noise of an engine, by dividing a crankshaft, coupling the divided parts of the crankshaft to each other through a flexible joint and reising the flexural rigidity of each divided part.
CONSTITUTION: The crankshaft 10 is divided at its center into a front part 11 and a rear part 12, which are coupled to each other through the flexible joint 13 so that both the parts are rotated as one body. The flexible joint 13 comprises a cylindrical joint part 15 provided with an internal spline 14 and shaft parts 17 provided with external splines 16 engaged with the internal spline 14. The axial displacement of the parts of the crankshaft and its bending can thus be simultaneously absorbed.
