Abstract

PURPOSE: A repellent against shipworm (Toredo navadlis japonica) that contains a specific amine or its salt as the effective component, thus being specifically effective against shipworm.
CONSTITUTION: At least one of compounds of the formula [R1 is saturated or unsaturated and straightly chained hydrocabyl of 12W18 carbon atoms; R2 is H, methyl; R3 is H, methyl, -(CH2)3-NH2; where when R2 is methyl, R3 also is methyl] or its salt, e.g., dodecylamine or its naphthenic acid salt or tallow alkylmine acetic acid salt, is used as the effective component. The shipworm is different in living function from other bacteria and algae and the above compound is selectively effective against the shipworm. The compound is used in the form of solution, suspension or gel.
