USE: A synthetic intermediate of a medicine such as an optically active prostaglandin.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by reacting the optically active compound II (Z is O, S; R4 is H, alkyl, aryl) with a thiol compound III or IV in the presence of an acid, and if necessary hydrolyzing the produced thioacetal.
