Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent excessive temperature rise in bearings and powder seal members by providing an annular air gap around magnetic powder and a yoke and cooling a bracket with cooling air.
CONSTITUTION: Annular air gaps g1, g2 are provided between a yoke 5 accomodating a coil 6 and a drive member 2 as well as the drive member 2 and a driven member 4 sealing magnetic powder therebetween. An inlet port 7a and a discharge port 8a for cooling wind are formed on brackets 7, 8 connected to the yoke 5. A centrifugal fan 10 for sucking is fixed to a plate 9 at the side of the bracket 7 while a discharging fan 11 is fixed to the drive member 2. According to this construction, slip heat in the magnetic powder P and Joules heat in the coil 6, both generated when the coil 6 is magnetized and rotating torque is transmitted to a load connected to the output shaft 3, are cooled effectively by the cooling wind from the fan 10, 11, and thereby excessive temperature rise in bearings and the powder seal members may be prevented.
