Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove fine impurities in raw water efficiently and enhance the speed for filtering and centrifugal separation by a method wherein the pH of a sludge discharged from a flocculation precipitation tank is changed to eliminate flocks of flocculating agent and, thereafter, filtration or centrifugal separation is carried out.
CONSTITUTION: An acid is added to an alkaline raw water and an alkali is added to the acidified raw water, whereupon the pH of the sludge is changed to eliminate flocks of the flocculating agent and, thereafter, the sludge is separated and the separated liquid is added to said raw water to reutilize the acid or alkali and flocculating agent in said separated liquid. For example, when polyaluminum chloride is added to treat a fishery waste water to precipitate by flocculation, co-flocculated flocks of impurities and Al(OH)3 are precipitated. In HCl is added to this waste water sludge to adjust the pH thereof the about 3, Al(OH)3 is converted to AlCl3 and dissolved in water and, if this treated sludge is filtered by a filter press, a filtered sludge with a water content of about 74% is obtd. and a time required for filtration is shortened to about 1/3.
