Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a highly reliable detector of compact size by detecting the transmitting light through the light deflecting element after the light enters the strong dielectric crystal composing the temperature detection part.
CONSTITUTION: The light deflecting element 6 and the light detecting element 7 are arranged before and after the strong dielectric crystal 5 with the respective transmission light deflection shaft perpendicular to each other. When the laser light enters the crystal, the value of the double refractive index thereof varies with the temerature. Thus the transmission factor changes as shown by the drawing. Based on the theroy, the optical fibers 1 and 1' are provided with a self-condensing rod lens 2 and 2' between which the LiNbO3 crystal Y plate 5, the light deflecting element 6 and the light detecting element 7 are arranged. Then, light enters the optical fiber 1 from the light source 8 and the transmission output is detected with the light detector 9. In this manner, application of dependence on the temperature in the optical characteristics of the strong dielectric crystal provides a small and light detector stable against any mechanical vibration.
