CONSTITUTION:An input picture element signal is multiple-quantized by quantizer 1 and is stored in memory equipment 2. Operator 3 operates and forecasts the density level of each small picture element for division of the notice picture element according to contents of memory equipment 2. The forecasted result and the threshold level from memory equipment 5 where a threshold pattern is stored are decided by decider 4 to determine the black or white level of each small picture element. Consequently, since the notice picture element is divided into small picture elements and the density level is determined for every small picture element, a high- resolution reproduced picture can be obtained.
