Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous alloy having high exciting characteristics and little iron loss and suitable for use as an iron core material for a power transformer by cooling an Fe-Ni-Si-B type steel of a specified composition at an ultra high cooling rate.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy steel represented by general formula Fea, Nib, Sic, Bd (where a+b+c+d+=1 and by atomic number ratio, b; 0.01W0.10, c; 0.01W0.10, d; 0.08W0.17 and c+d 0.12W0.18) is melted and spouted upon the surface of a cooling drum, a cooling roll or the like rotating at a high speed from a thin nozzle, whereby the molten steel is solidified by rapid cooling at a cooling rate of 105°C/sec to manufacture an amorphous tapelike steel sheet. This sheet has superior exciting characteristics and little iron loss, and it is very suitable for use as an iron core material for a power transformer.
