Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently conduct edge treatment of a composite formed body without using a braid material by a method wherein a rigid substrate layer and a nonrigid layer are joined by using oppositly faced combination molds which leave an aperture around the sphere of effective forming surfaces and the substrate layer is trimmed, while the nonrigid layer being folded and held.
CONSTITUTION: Oppositly faced combination molds 4 and 5 are prepared to have a structure which leaves an aperture α between the spheres b of the facing surfaces of both molds on the outer-peripheral surface of the sphere a of effective forming surfaces thereof when the molds 4 and 5 are closed so that the spheres b of both molds do not press a part of the material to be formed located between them. A nonrigid layer 2 is formed through the vacuum forming by the mold 4 and, it being held on the forming surface, a rigid substrate layer 1 is inserted between the molds 4 and 5, the molds being closed for sticking treatment. The parts 1' and 2' of both layers around the sphere of effective forming are left not stuck. The part 1' of the substrate layer is trimmed, while the part 2' of the nonrigid layer is folded on to the back-surface side of the rigid substrate layer 1 and held thereon, thereby the edge surface of the outer periphery of the substrate layer 1 is coated.
