Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the stable continuous casting of undeoxidized steel and reduce the production of flaws by making the injection direction of molten steel from a jet port in the same direction as electromagnetic flow and letting the lengthwise direction of the long sides coincide. CONSTITUTION:Linear motors 3 are installed respectively along both long sides 2 of a slab mold 1. These are so arranged that the thrusts thereof are given in mutually different directions 4, 4', whereby continuous film-formed electromagnetic flow 5 is given to the freezing boundary. At this time, the jet port 7 of a molten steel immersion nozzle 6 is installed in proximity to the long side 2 of the mold 1 and the injection direction 8 of the molten steel from said jet port 7 is made approximately parallel in the lengthwise direction of the long side 2, whereby the casting is done. The nozzle jet flow gives directivity positively to the electromagnetic flow, thereby forming the smooth and continuous electromagnetic flow stably.
