Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the produced quantity of surplus sludge through efficient performance of waste water clarification and self-digestion of active sludge by a method wherein waste water treated in the first aeration tank is guided into the second aeration tank where aeration is conducted to digest biological solid in active sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water 13 contg. soluble organic material is guided, together with returned active sludge 27, into the first aeration tank 16 where aeration is performed to reach a 90% or more soluble BOD removal ratio. Then, treated waste water 19 contg. active sludge is introduced into the second aeration tank 20, where aeration is conducted until the active sludge concentration becomes lower at the outlet of the second aeration tank than at its inlet, which means sufficient digestion of biological solid in the sludge. Then, the water is guided into a settling tank 24 and solid and liquid are separated.
