Abstract
PURPOSE: To cool this engine without alteration remodeling the shape of a shell plating of a hull, by exchanging heat by means of the shell plating of the hull.
CONSTITUTION: A fresh water cooling tank 2 with sufficient area is formed by utilizing one portion of a shell plating 12 (Mainly, the bottom of a ship) of a hull, the inside is partitioned in a series of flow paths by means of a proper number of partition walls 13 while an engine 1 and a heat exchanger 5 are disposed onto an upper wall of the tank in shapes that are connected by means of pipes 10, and the engine and the heat exchanger are connected to the inside by means of pipes 6, 7 provided with fresh water pumps 3, 4 and pipes 9, 8. Thus, fresh water for cooling the engine cooled by heat exchanging with external seawater through the shell plating 12 of the hull during the time when the fresh water passes through a series of flow paths in the fresh water cooling tank 2 is supplied to the engine 1 by means of the fresh water pump 3, cools the engine 1 and is returned to the fresh water cooling tank 2 by means of the pipe 9. Cooling water pumped up by means of the fresh water pump 4 cools lubricating oil, etc., which circulate between the engine 1 and the heat exchanger 5 through the pipes 10, by means of the heat exchanger 5.
