Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize an error occurring due to variations in measuring distance of a non-contact electrometer, by automatically varying the amplification degree of the electrometer in accordance with its measuring distance.
CONSTITUTION: A voltage-electric field conversion means A is adapted to generate an electric field E1 by a measured electric potential VIN from a sample. A voltage- electric field conversion means A' is adapted to generate an electric field E2 by an output VOUT from an electrode opposed thereto, which constitutes a part of a sealed case for an electrometer probe. An electric field-voltage conversion means B is adapted to convert the difference between the electric fields E1, E2 into a voltage. This voltage is input into an amplifier C the degree of amplification of which is varied in accordance with a distance measured by a distance measuring instrument F. An output from the amplifier C is applied to a high voltage control circuit E through a synchronous detector and an integrator D.
