Abstract

PURPOSE: To inexpensively prevent the captioned defects owing to the sulfur-base gas produced from the mold during pouring by coating iron oxide as coat on the walls of the mold which uses sulfur-contained organic binders, thereby performing casting.
CONSTITUTION: In producing castings by the mold which uses organic binders containing sulfur such as furan resin using paratoluene sulfonic acid as a hardener, fine powder of iron oxide (Fe2O3) is beforehand coated on the mold wall, then emission of sulfur-base gas such as H2S and COS from the mold is prevented and therefore the degradation in the degree of spheroidization of the graphite of the casting surface layer is prevented. Hence, the occurrence of the structual defects of the spheroidal graphite casting is prevented and therefore the casting quality may be improved without any increase in the cost.
