Abstract
PURPOSE: To cause instantaneous setting by percolating methanol in the sand mold molded by mixing a suitable amount of sodium silicate to silica sand powder and granules.
CONSTITUTION: Silica sand powder and granules of about 200W250 mesh in grain size and those of about 250W270 mesh in grain size are mixed by each 50wt%. A viscous sodium silicate solution 4W10% is mixed into these and the mixture is kneaded to make the mixed sand. By using this mixed sand, a sand mold is molded by a conventional method. If a suirable amount of methanol is sprinkled over this to be percolated into the sand, the sand sets instantaneously. The amount of using the methanol is not made constant but is so controlled as to have it evenyl percolated according to the shape of the sand mold. The sets and mold molded in this way has strength and is easy to handle.
