Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a coiled spring as stated in the title without cutting of fibers and collapsing, by twising and sectioning a bundle of fiber elements, imparting a second twisting after arranging the sections in an annular form and then integrating these sections.
CONSTITUTION: A core material supplying drum 17, coiled spring pitch-feed guide 20, core metal 21 and a lead screw 22 are rotated around the axis of coil material element with respect to a nozzle 15, frame 16, locating guidance 18 and a tape- supplying drum 19. Under this circumstance, the small unit 2 of the fiber element bundle is paid off from a drum 11 and delivered to a furnace 14 for a drying. The dried unit is supplied to the outer peripheral surface of a core member 1 delivered by a drum 17 and is then fed to the guide 20. A second twist is imparted to each unit in the same direction as the tensile force which will be applied to the spring formed of a plurality of units. The units are then integrated into a continuous coiled spring.
