Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance, especially the resistance to sulfuric acid of the titled steel of a specified composition contg. Cr and Mo by forming a film based on Cr2O3, MnCr2O4 or MnSiO3-contg. MnCr2O4 and having a specified thickness on the steel surface.
CONSTITUTION: This ferrite stainless steel has a composition consisting of ≤0.12% C, ≤0.013% N, ≤1.0% Si, ≤1.0% Mn, ≤0.010% S, 16W19% Cr, 0.75W1.25% Mo, and the balance Fe and inevitable impurities. By annealing this steel in a low oxygen potential atmosphere having a suitable dew point, e.g., an H2-H2O atmosphere, a surface film based on Cr2O3 and having a thickness of 25Å or more or a surface film based on MnCr2O4 or MnSiO3-contg. MnCr2O4 and having a thickness of 500Å or more is formed.
