Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase thermal efficiency, by superposing heat accumulating bricks, each having a turbulence promoting section projected in a plane perpendicular to the gas flow, in the manner that they are extended in the direction of gas flow and the gas flow is twisted in a helical form by the turbulence promoting sections.
CONSTITUTION: Brick 1 is composed of main body 2 shaped substantially in a cross form and a turbulence promoting section 3. The turbulence promoting section 3 is extended from at least one of legs 4 of the cross-shaped main body 2 in a plane perpendicular to gas flow. Gas passages 5 are formed between legs 4 of adjuacent bricks 1 having the same shape. These bricks 1 are superposed on each other such that their positions are not displaced in vertical direction but twisted toward upper stages. By such an arrangement, gas flow can be controlled to be helical, which is effective in promoting heat transfer by turbulence, prolonging the time when gas stays in gas passage 5, and suppressing development of turbulent boundary layers.
