Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize combustion flame by jetting plasma gas therein, in the middle and later stages of combustion when combustion flame is not stabilized, with a plasma-gas jetting ignition plug provided in addition to a mixture-gas ignition plug. CONSTITUTION:When the flame generated by an ignition plug 4 reaches the ion electrode 11 of an ignition plug 5, the voltage applied to the clearance between the electrode 11 and a sideward electrode 7 is discharged so that ion current flows in the primary side coil 14a of a coil 14. Thereby, high voltage is generated in a secondary coil 14b, and spark discharge in the discharge space 9 between the core electrode 6 and sideward electrode 7 of the plug 5. In succession, the charge accumulated in the condenser 22 of a high-energy generating circuit 22 is released so that discharge is made in the space 9. High-temperature, high-energy plasma gas is jetted into a combustion chamber 3 through a blast nozzle 10 so that flame is stabilized in the middle and late stages of combustion.
