PURPOSE:To obtain a stable reproduced picture of a video signal which never changes in level, by correcting an error of the number of horizontal scanning lines in a vertical period by combining delay signals. CONSTITUTION:A time-axis correcting unit is composed of delay elements 17-20 with delay time of 0.5H, output change-over circuit 21, etc. In this constitution, CCD's are used as elements 17-20 to supply an undelayed signal to input terminal 15 and outputs 23-26 delayed by 0.5H, 1H and 2H are extracted from output terminal 16 through the switching of circuit 21 with the time axis corrected. Namely, 1H-delayed output 24 is generated while reproduction is put into effect by head A and undelayed output 22 is generated while the reproduction is carried out by head B, so that an error of the number of H's in the vertical period will be a deflection of approximate 1H. Further, when the combinational output of delay elements is used, the time axis correction is made before an addition signal of a FM signal and low-frequency conversion chrominance signal is separated, so that flicker on a screen can be eliminated.
