Abstract

PURPOSE: To apply the thrust of the same direction as static pressure to head, reduce head amount and mold the cast ingot of superior quality with good yield by disposing an electromagnetic induction coil which generates shifting magnetic field around the head storing part of a mold.
CONSTITUTION: An electromagnetic induction coil 3 which generates a shifting magnetic field H is disposed around the head storing part of a mold 1. When current is flowed to the coil 3, the downward pressure PE by electromagnetic force acts upon the head 2a and said pressure PE is applied to molten metal 2 in addition to the static pressure P0 of the head 2a, by which the feeding effect is improved. As a result of this, the sufficient feeding effect is provided by a small amount of head and the cast ingot of superior internal quality as compared to before may be produced with good yield. Equally good results will be obtained even by dividing the foregoing electromagnetic coil 3 applying the power of respectively different frequencies.
