Abstract
PURPOSE: A mutant of a microorganism belonging to mycobacterium is cultured to produce 9,10-secophenol from a sterol.
CONSTITUTION: A mutant that belongs to mycobacterium and can produce 9,10- secophenol from a sterol as the main product, e.g., mycobacterium parafortuitum complex MCI-1033 (FERM-4811) or mycobacterium fortuitum MCI-0871 (FERM- 4809), is inoculated in a culture medium containing a sterol as a substrate, and when necessary, 0.1wt% or more of glycerides and vegetable oil cakes. Then, 9,10-secophenol accumulated is collected from the culture medium.
