Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain fibrous high purity dawsonite by adding urea to an aq. soln. of sodium aluminate followed by reaction under specified high temp. and pressurized conditions.
CONSTITUTION: A calculated amt. of urea or a mixt. of urea and carbon dioxide or carbonate is added to an aq. soln. of sodium aluminate and reacted at a temp. above 125°C under a press. above 1.5 atm to produce fibrous dawsonite with good reproducibility.
