Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the formation of clusters and stabilize operations by breaking the plug-flow state which becomes the cause for cluster formation in the region of reducibility 50-70% where cluster formation begins during operation of the shaft furnace for iron core reduction. CONSTITUTION:In direct iron making in the shaft furnace for iron core reduction, the region of the reducibility 50-70% in the furnace is in the plug-flow region PF where cluster rings are likely to form. To avert the cluster rings, the plug-flow state is broken to keep the PF above the 50-70% reducibility region. To this end, the fluid dross region RF is raised to above the 50-70% reducibility region by such a method as a burden feeder 1 or baffle plate 3, mixing vanes 4 to limit the plug-flow region PF to the upper part of the shaft furnace. As a result of this, the ore layers become the fluid dross region where they descend with the mutual rotating or linear relative motion in the region of reducibility 50-70%, whereby the formation of clusters is inhibited and the furnace conditions are stabilized.
