Abstract

PURPOSE: After anodization, aluminum or its alloy treated by the electrolytic pigmentation is dipped into a water-born coating bath and applied with a specified surface current density by the gradual increase of alternative voltage continuously or stepwise, thereby preventing decoloration.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate of aluminum or its alloy, which is anodized and treated by the electrolytic pigmentation, is dipped and used as the electrode for the substrate. An alternative voltage is applied between the electrode and the opposing electrode with less area than that of the other electrode such as A1, Ti or Nb to coat the aluminum or its alloy substrate wherein the alternative voltage is gradually increased continuously or stepwise to the ultimate voltage so that the current surface density on the electrodeposition is always kept lower than that on the electrolytic pigmentation. The time reaching the ultimate voltage is desirably more than 10 sec, preferably over 20 sec.
