Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the disperse of the field at the magnet gap thus to improve the field uniformity, by employing Fe-Co alloy where the crystallizing direction is matched to the facing direction of pole piece as pole piece material.
CONSTITUTION: Fe-Co alloy ingot made of Co reduced in H and Fe and composed, for example, of 41 wt% of Co and 59 wt% of Fe is dissolved in the vacuum. Said ingot is set in Al2O3 crucible and a portion of said ingot is dissolved in Ar gas environment by means of high frequency furnace, then after making the temperature of molten metal sufficiently uniform it is solidified from the bottom with cooling rate of 4°C/h to one direction. Said material is cut to pole piece and annealed for three hours with 700°C in H environment. When matching the solidifying direction with the facing direction of pole piece, strong field can be produced in the gap resuslting in the improvement of field uniformity.
