Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the bridge of stock material by detecting cavity occurred directly above a screw feeder at the inlet side and blowing hydraulic gas into the material.
CONSTITUTION: A screw feeder having a casing 2, a srew 3, and a drive unit 4 is arranged at the bottom of a hopper 1 for charging stock material. When a dust is engaged in the material to form bridge in the material during operation, a cavity 10 occurs directly below the bridge in the material. This cavity 10 is detected by a cavity detector 7 utilizing ultrasonic wave or photoelectric tube, which produces a signal for opening a valve 9 to allow the nozzle 8 to spray high pressure gas such as air into the material. The screw feeder is sealed at the end. The high pressure gas thus sprayed urges the bridge in the material from below upwardly to thereby destroy the bridge. Then, the valve 9 is closed. Thus, it can safely and repidly eliminate the bridge in the material.
