Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title catalyst which maintains its high activity even if the amt. of platinum group metals is reduced, by supporting group VIII transition elements on a hardened carrier contg. lime aluminate, activated carbon powder and K2CO3 together with platinum group metals.
CONSTITUTION: About 70W80% of water is added to a powder mixt. consisting of powder activated carbon; 10W50 wt%, K2CO3; 5W15 wt% and the balance lime aluminate. They are kneaded, granulated, and dried to prepare a hardened carrier. The carrier is then held in a hydrochloric acid soln. cotg. chloroplatinic acid, palladium chloride and chlorides, etc. of group VIII transition elements such as Fe, Co and Ni to allow the chlorides to be adsorbed on the carrier. The adsorbed chlorides are then reduced with 10 times as much sodium borohydride as the reduction equivalent to obtain a CO oxidation catalyst.
