Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:Triene compounds of formula I (R is 4-8C linear alkyl or branched alkyl having one methyl or ethyl side chain).
EXAMPLE: 1,3,5-decatriene.
USE: Component of a perfume composition having galbanum-like fragrance which harmonizes with various other fragrance.
PROCESS: As shown in the reaction formula, a quaternary phosphonium salt (II) (R' is aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic group; X is halogen) and an aldehyde compound (III) are reacted together in a two-phase solvent comprising water and an organic solvent, in the presence of a basic compound, using quaternary ammonium salts as a phase-transfer catalyst, to obtain the triene compound. n-Pentanal, etc. may be cited as the aldehyde compound. In the formula II, R' is pref. phenyl, and X is pref. Br or C1. The catalyst is, e.g. triethyllaurylammonium bromide, etc.
