Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a compressed air-fuel mixture supply device, which can uniformalize the rate and speed of injection of compressed air-fuel mixture supplied to individual cylinders and thus permits steady and stable combustion without the possibility of torque variations.
CONSTITUTION: Air-fuel mixture supply branch paths 20a to 20d each having their one end open to each of cylinders 4a to 4d of a four-cylinder internal combustion engine, and these open ends are opened and closed by respective auxiliary intake valves 21a to 21d. The other ends of the individual branches communicate with a common air-fuel mixture supply path 29. The auxiliary intake cylinders 21a to 21d are opened in the second half of the compression stroke of an second hald of the intake stroke of the corresponding cylinders. In addition, in order to make equal the resistance of the air-fuel mixture supply path 29 connecting the individual cylinders, for which the respective auxiliary intake cylinders are opened in synchronism to one another, the paths 20a and 29d are made equal in length, and also either the paths 29b and 29c are made equal in length or the individual paths are provided with suitably selected orifices.
