Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce CO, HC and NOx by increasing the exhaust gas temperature and making combustion slowly under a lower temperature engine operating condition by delaying the ignition timing irrespective of the throttle valve aperture. CONSTITUTION:Under the low temperature idling engine operating condition an exhaust gas temperature switch 38 and a water temperature switch 39 are held ''on'', so that a distributor 7 is retarded, thus preventing increase of the harmful component under the low temperature condition and quickly increasing the exhaust gas temperature. When the exhaust gas temperature switch 38 is opened with increase of the engine temperature, the supply of negative pressure in a power unit 32 to a cylinder 32 is stopped, and a piston 41 is lowered to open a valve 42 so as to render operative a unit for rendering air-fuel mixture rich. Thus, control of ignition timing and EGR control can be effected according to the negative pressure in each opening section corresponding to the aperture of a throttle valve 14, so that an effect of purifying the exhaust gas can be obtained.
