When the turn-on ratio has reached the miximum value, it is maintained at this value. Then, the motor current decreases on a characteristic curve. When the motor current has reached a predetermined ratio to the limited current level, a low field excitation switch 11 is turned on by a central processor 20 made of a multiplexer. Therefore, the drop in the motor current can be reduced.
