Abstract

PURPOSE: When a rubber mainly consisting of styrene-butadiene copolymer is vulcanized with sulfur, specific amounts of dibenzothiazyl sulfide and urea are incorporated as accelerators to produce tire tread materials with high cut resistance.
CONSTITUTION: In the vulcanization of rubber materials for tire treads such as styrene-butadien copolymer alone or mixtures thereof with natural rubber or synthetic rubber such as EPDR or CPR with sulfur, 100 parts by wt of the rubber are incorporated with 0.1-5 parts of dibenzothiazyl sulfide as a primary accelerator and 0.1-3 parts of urea that is desirably surface treated with a dispersion modifier such as silicone oil or fatty acid ester as a secondary accelerator, thereby making the ratio of network density caused by polysulfide bonds to the total network density after vulcanization over 60%. The resulting rubber composition is improved remarkably in appearance performance such as cutting rsistance.
