Abstract

PURPOSE: To secure the steady display for the liquid crystal display element by providing the resistance film varying its resistance by the heating temperature onto the element and detecting the change of the resistance to control the temperature of the element.
CONSTITUTION: Resistance film 17 of tin oxide or the like, which increases its resistance as the heating temperature rises up and decreases the resistance with lowered temperatures respectively, is provided on substrate 13 which forms liquid crystal display element 1. Film 17 is then heated up via power source 3, and liquid crystal material 16 is heated up gradually. On the other hand, the resistance value of film increases with heating, and the current decreases. By this changing amount and the power voltage, detector 4 detects the resistance value of film 17 and then detects the temperature of material 16 using the resistance value as the medium. In case the temperature is lower than the desired level, the voltage of circuit 3 is increased and decreased when the temperature is lower than the desired level respectively. For this purpose, the feedback control is given. In this way, film 17 can double the functions of the heat generator and the temperature sensor, ensuring the temperature control for element 1. Thus, the steady dispaly becomes possible even at the cold temperatures.
