Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase process speed by applying an insulation type shield plate as a shield electrode enclosing a corona discharge electrode thereby increasing corona current quantity and ending destaticization within a short time without increasing voltage.
CONSTITUTION: The AC corona discharger is so constituted that a conductive shiled plate 2 which is opened at its top and bottom as much as necessary for image radiation and an insulation material 4 on the side thereof facing the corona discharge electrode are provided by surrounding the corona discharge electrode 3. When an a.c. high voltage is supplied to the discharge electrode 3, the voltage of the positive polarity in its one cycle is applied, then the corona discharge of a positive polarity takes place, whereby a photoreceptor 1 and insulation layer 4 are charge to the positive polarity. Next, when the voltage of a negative polarity is applied, the corona discharge of a negative polarity conversely takes place. At this time the insulation layer 4 has previously been charged to the positive polarity and therefore the interface between the corona discharge electrode 3 and the insulation layer 4 becomes stronger than that in the case of the shield plate 2 alone, thus corona discharge is effectively accomplished.
