Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce HC, CO and NOx included in a combustion discharge gas, by locating a catalyst converter, to which Pd or Pt is applied, at a discharge passage of an internal combustion engine, by feeding auxiliary air from a secondary air feeder and also by performing an improved lean burning.
CONSTITUTION: One end of a discharge gas flow back passage 64 is connected with a discharge port 44 of an internal combustion engine proper 1, and the other end connected with the downstream of a throttle valve 52 of a main suction passage 24. The discharge port 44 is connected with a catalyst converter 70 with which one end of a secondary air feeding pipe 74 is connected, and the other end is connected with a booster pump 76. A discharge gas discharge from a cylinder can be purified due to both oxidizing and deoxidizing actions performed as a result of the discharge gas flowing back and by means of Pd or Pt catalyst. The regulation of the opening of a throttle valve 52 increases a jet flow through an injection hole 46 and advances a lean burning limit. A fuel cost can thus be improved.
