Abstract

PURPOSE: Collected dust in silicon base alloy iron smelting is reacted with aqueous NaOH solution and rapidly cooled at a specific condition to control gelling reaction, thereby to provide good quality sodium silicate free of viscosity increase during storage.
CONSTITUTION: Collected dust in smelting of silicon base alloy iron such as ferrosilicon, metal silicon is reacted with aqueous NaOH solution and rapidly cooled within 30 minutes after the reaction to below 50°C during 60 minutes or less time. The method controls gel reaction of the formula below, thus preventing storage viscosity increase.
EFFECT: Na2O.nSiO2+Ca(OH)2+mH2O→2NaOH+CaO.nSiO2.mH2O
