Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain graphite of high purity used in a nuclear reactor, etc. by laterally arranging carbon molded bodies in a resistance heating furnace packed with coke particles and by superposing the arrangement in multistage, in refining of the bodies in the furnace, so that the bodies of the upper stage are placed above the gaps of the lower stage.
CONSTITUTION: Refining furnace 1 is packed with packing coke particles 3 and carbon molded bodies 5 laterally arranged. A current is supplied to furnace 1 from transformer 4 through quide electrode 2, and a refining gas in cylinder 9 is blown from the lower part of the lowermost stage bodies through main pipe 6 and branch pipes 7. Bodies 5 are laterally arranged at right angles to the curent flowing direction, and each second-stage body 5 is placed between the first-stage bodies and above each gap betweeen the first-stage bodies. The second-and third-stage bodies are similarly arranged.
