Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an unsaturated polyester resin composition capable of giving cured articles having excellent chemical and heat resistance, by compounding a specific unsaturated polyester consisting of tricyclodecanedimethylol as a glycol component, with vinyl monomers copolymerizable therewith.
CONSTITUTION: A resin composition comprising (A) 40W80 wt.% of an unsaturated polyester prepared by polycondensation of (a) a glycol component consisting wholly or partially of tricyclodecanedimethylol (e.g. tricyclo [5. 2. 1. O2,6] decane-3,8-dimethylol), with (b) a saturated polybasic acid component consisting wholly or partially of terephthalic acid and (c) an unsaturated polybasic acid, e.g. fumaric acid, etc., and (B) 60W20 wt.% of vinyl monomers copolymerizable with (A), e.g. styrene.
EFFECT: The composition gives excellent dimensional stability in curing and the smooth surface without formation of wrinkles even when reinforced with glass fibers.
